Our trip to Michigan was the highlight, of course. We got to see family members and best friends, which was really the best Christmas gift of all. It was an adventure, traveling with both the pup and parrot, but well worth it. Sawyer slept the whole way there and back, and he made some doggy friends up north. Kudzu didn't make any friends, in fact, he may have made an enemy seeing that he bit Daniel so hard that he bled! I told you not to put your finger in the cage, Dan!!
Back in the warm south, we've had the chance to take Sawyer to all of the area dog parks, much to his delight. He is definitely warming up to the idea of playing with other dogs. I think his time with Miley (Elizabeth and Marcus' pup) reminded him of how fun it is to make friends.
Aside from playing with our pets, Chris and I have both taken time to enjoy our hobbies. Being that we live together (of course), drive to work together, and pretty much do everything else together, this break was a good time for us to get a little "me time" for ourselves. Chris spent some time at the gun range, shooting a giant target he bought. I took myself to a bookstore and browsed around. I also made my first-ever pound cake yesterday. It is delicious, if I don't say so myself! We also have gone to the gym (together, but we work out in separate facilities). In addition to saving for a vacation this summer, we bought each other a new pair of running shoes for Christmas. (Erin will like to know that it took Chris three trips to the cash register before he finally chose a pair and stayed in line. Ha ha!)
Of course, we know that winter break is a finite little chunk of time, and that we must return to work soon... So we both have spent lots of time preparing for our return. Chris has had a half dozen SC books spilled open on the coffee table, in attempts to find the best information to provide to his students. I have spent hours of analyzing book lists with the mission of choosing the perfect novel to share with my struggling readers. (I think I did, too!)
Speaking of books... Chris and I both feel strongly about supporting small, local businesses. We also happen to love finding new little "spots" around town. A few days ago, we checked out a tiny little bookstore in town called All Books & Company. It's a really cute store, tucked away not too far from the heart of downtown Summerville. Chris heard about this store through the grapevine at school. It turns out that they offer a 20% discount to teachers. What a deal! We support them, they support us... Just another perk of being in education!
Well, that's about it for now. I have to let Sawyer out of jail... He got locked up so I could type this, because he kept dropping his Skinnneez on the keyboard. He'll be glad when he finds out he's going to the dog park today!
Here's a few pics from break...
Sawyer sleeping in the back seat of the car...

Sawyer loved the snow!
P.S. I forgot to mention that I determined my phone works fine, but the battery doesn't. Chris let me use his battery two days ago... And then I lost my phone. It's around here somewhere, I'm sure. But for now, we have his phone but no working battery.
I sure have had trouble with phones lately!
